OpenPower will also provide systems and expertise to support Al Hathboor Bikal.ai in constructing and operating a new smart computing center at the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTIP).
This collaboration enables OpenPower and Al Hathboor Bikal.ai (a joint venture between Al Hathboor Group LLC and Bikal Technologies Limited) to leverage their joint experience in high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) to offer clients in the region advanced capabilities, allowing them to utilize artificial intelligence to address business challenges and create new digital technologies.
The agreement was signed on May 17 at the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, with His Excellency Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTIP, and Raj Sandhu, General Manager of Al Hathboor Bikal.ai, members of the management committee Mohammed Al Hathboor and Alaa Bawab, Head of Infrastructure Solutions at Coconut Palm Investment Management Co., Ltd, as well as other senior executives and dignitaries in attendance.
Raj Sandhu, General Manager of Al Hathboor Bikal.ai, commented on the collaboration, "We have great ambitions for the Sharjah Research and Innovation Park, and partnering with a global computing leader like OpenPower will lay the foundation for developing customized infrastructure solutions to meet the challenges of public and private organizations. We look forward to leveraging OpenPower's expertise in technology to enhance our digital capabilities, while welcoming new AI-driven and smart computing-supported research and technology."
“Al Hathboor believes that this cooperation can give the UAE a technological edge in the innovation ecosystem, create job opportunities and possibilities for our youth, and develop technologies to address regional and global challenges. OpenPower, Nvidia, and Intel’s joint capabilities in technology transfer offered by SRTIP allow us to look forward to collaborating with our universities, businesses, and government,” added Mohammed Al Hathboor, a member of the management committee of Al Hathboor Bikal.ai.
High-Performance Computing (HPC) Accessible to All
OpenPower will provide Al Hathboor with HPC hardware and software as well as operational management and support to create on-demand and managed services for clients. This partnership will democratize the use of HPC for various private and public sector organizations, allowing them to
access HPC clusters through a service model.
access HPC clusters through a service model.
As an application example, the HPC cluster located at SRTIP can play a crucial role in enhancing the health and safety of the citizens of the Emirate of Sharjah. By leveraging the power of HPC, authorities can process and analyze massive amounts of data from various sources such as CCTV systems and sensor networks, up to analyzing patient data for health diagnostics. This enables real-time monitoring, helping to quickly identify potential threats and respond proactively. Additionally, the advanced analytics capabilities of high-performance computing systems can enhance emergency response and disaster management by optimizing resource allocation, analyzing weather patterns, and coordinating rescue efforts. Moreover, HPC’s advanced analytics capabilities assist in predictive modeling and machine learning algorithms, enabling institutions to detect activity patterns and predict potential events. Ultimately, HPC enables decision-makers to make data-driven choices, thereby enhancing the safety and health of all citizens across the UAE.
Artificial Intelligence and Analytics
The agreement will leverage OpenPower’s position as one of the only providers to offer validated, immediately deployable artificial intelligence infrastructure solutions that are optimized for industry-leading independent software vendors (ISVs) of any size and scale. OpenPower will also offer support through its Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, including access to OpenPower smart computing scientists, AI architects, and engineers, utilizing the company’s cross-industry expertise to deploy AI and machine learning research solutions that can be used in various fields, including education, research and development, retail, oil and gas, among others.
With its AI-ready servers and storage solutions, active partnerships, and ISV ecosystem, OpenPower will provide pre-validated, performance-optimized AI-ready solutions on demand, even under the most demanding high-performance workloads.
Sustainable Smart Computing Center
As part of the deal, OpenPower will construct one of the region’s first smart computing centers to use OpenPower’s patented Neptune liquid cooling technology, which will significantly enhance the energy efficiency and sustainability of the services offered by Al Hathboor. The unique cooling solution uses efficient liquid cooling to reduce the cooling requirements of the smart computing center, thereby lowering energy consumption and aiding in achieving sustainability goals. The solution is designed to achieve sustainable performance and scalability while supporting the urgent needs of HPC workloads without compromising performance.
Alaa Bawab, Head of Infrastructure Solutions at Coconut Palm Investment Management Co., Ltd, added, “The agreement with Al Hathboor Bikal.ai on HPCaaS is a game changer, enabling organizations to gain access to high-performance computing and advanced technologies including artificial intelligence to drive their digital transformation, confident that they can be serviced from the region’s first sustainable smart computing center.” He further added, “In addition to aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 policy, the launch of the smart computing center will also enable organizations to gain access to powerful solutions and computing resources to effectively utilize them. This, in turn, will help to drive new innovations, such as large language models similar to GPT-3, and assist organizations in bringing the benefits of advanced AI into their operations.”
The agreement and the commissioning of the new sustainable smart computing center are in line with the UAE NetZero 2050 strategic initiative. This initiative is a national endeavor to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, powered by key sustainability goals such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, implementing sustainable practices, and using renewable energy. The new smart computing center keeps this in mind by lowering energy consumption while enhancing efficiency.
The agreement will also form a basis for cooperation activities and research platforms in related fields such as technology incubation and development. Both parties will also promote activities that encourage cooperation among tech companies, while supporting each other through international conferences, workshops, and events.
